Our Sages
The reputation of HOW Academy rests on the people who teach. Every programme is led by a clinician who continues to practise — and whose name means something in their field.
Dr. Amira Hassan
Dr. Amira Hassan is a physician and certified practitioner with fifteen years of clinical experience spanning conventional internal medicine, integrative therapy, and trauma-informed somatic practice. She is the lead faculty for HOW Academy's diploma in Integrative Health.
Her clinical and research interests lie at the intersection of mind-body medicine, hormonal health, and the neurobiological effects of chronic stress. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presents internationally on evidence-informed integrative approaches to complex, multi-system conditions.
Dr. James Okonkwo
Dr. James Okonkwo is a cardiologist, researcher, and medical educator who serves as Chair of HOW Academy's Academic Board. He brings three decades of clinical, research, and educational experience to the institution's governance and curriculum design.
His academic work spans cardiac rehabilitation, lifestyle medicine in cardiovascular prevention, and the translation of research evidence into postgraduate clinical education. He holds fellowships of the European Society of Cardiology and has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers.
Dr. Elena Vasquez
Dr. Elena Vasquez is a physician and public health specialist with extensive experience designing and evaluating community health interventions at both institutional and national-policy levels.
Formerly with WHO's Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Vasquez led technical advisory work on chronic disease prevention and non-communicable disease policy across the GCC and North Africa. She joined HOW Academy's faculty in 2022.
Dr. Omar Rahman
Dr. Omar Rahman is a neuro-rehabilitation specialist and neuroscientist whose clinical and teaching work focuses on translating advances in neuroplasticity research into practical frameworks for patient care.
He runs HOW Academy's intensive weekend residencies on brain-based approaches to rehabilitation, pain, and patient education, and leads the Gut–Brain Axis Workshop — one of the academy's most consistently oversubscribed programmes.
Dr. Priya Nair
Dr. Priya Nair is HOW Academy's lead on clinical ethics and professional responsibility, a role she brings to all diploma programmes through dedicated ethics seminars and thesis supervision.
Her research centres on clinical decision-making under uncertainty, the ethics of integrative and functional medicine practice, informed consent in complex conditions, and the responsibilities of educators in clinical postgraduate training.
Dr. Khalid Al-Mansouri
Dr. Khalid Al-Mansouri is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine with extensive experience working with elite and sub-elite athletes across national and international programmes in the GCC region.
He leads the Sports Medicine & Performance Diploma at HOW Academy and brings a systems-level perspective to sports medicine — integrating biomechanics, functional nutrition, and rehabilitation science in a way that is applicable across the full spectrum of active patients.
